Web Page

I like the present web page very much and I would vote for keeping it and paying the yearly fee of $20.00 US.

Congratulations

Must give congratulations to all the club members on the wonderful photo show you put on. As one of the newest members and not a show participant - I only echo the wonderful accolades the club received in the Driftwood Newspaper yesterday. The initial write up before the show talked about how the members are united in a common love of photography and a willingness to share their knowledge, ideas and expression in the medium - which is probably the goal ststement of the…

Coffee shop discussions:

What happens in a digital camera when you adjust the ISO?
From the internet I have found this description:

If you are using a digital camera, changing the ISO changes the amount of signal amplification and this affects the amount of digital noise in your images. You therefore do not want to change ISO to
simulate dialing in an exposure compensation.

INFORMATION NEEDED FOR PR

I was thinking on the way home from the meeting last night about ways to attract new members to the group, or just to get people to read my info sheet, and decided that some interesting statistics could help. What I need to know is;

How many are in the club now?

How old is our oldest member....and on the other end of the spectrum, how old are you, James?

How many years have you each been involved with photography, and as a really rough estimate,…

Artspring Show

Being an amatuer, I am not sure if my images are ready for this type of show. Therefore, count me as a maybe at a lower level ($75?). The only public place that I have ever shown my photos is 2009 Fall Fair.

Guess I need to learn what is expected to show: quality, size, how many images?

For sure I will help during the show. I am in Mexico until April 1.

Fun pics

I have been trying to tell you all what my picture is and it won't go on to the bottom of the picture. It is the oblong halogen lights on the Bowen Queen that light up the deck. They are shining on a slanted back window of a car. I blacked out the rear view mirror so that you could not see that it was a car. Hope you had some fun, I did. Thank you for all the comments.

Memory

Not exactly a photography subject but I'm planning on upgrading and taking RAW images, so imagine I will need more ram on my computer. Anyone know whether it's easy to install yourself, or know of someone good that can do it for me? How much more space does RAW take, anyway, than JPEG? Also, any suggestions on a good camera that I can grow into? Thinking about the Nikon D300. And what would be good lenses to start off with if I do go with that one?

Newbie, introducing myself.

Hello fellow photographers. I attended my first meeting of the club this month and really appreciated the format, how informal it was and what sort of comments were made on the photos that were being critiqued. Though I'm not very knowledgeable on the technical side I have an interest in learning all that stuff, with a view to getting an SLR camera and using it well. I learnt about the club on the Salt Spring community list (bless it!). For the last 5 years I've been using my photos to put out… Continue
