Not exactly a photography subject but I'm planning on upgrading and taking RAW images, so imagine I will need more ram on my computer. Anyone know whether it's easy to install yourself, or know of someone good that can do it for me? How much more space does RAW take, anyway, than JPEG? Also, any suggestions on a good camera that I can grow into? Thinking about the Nikon D300. And what would be good lenses to start off with if I do go with that one?

Thanks Bob, for all the info. I did download Lightroom for a free month trial and for what I was doing, found my old editing program to be easier to use, but will look at it again when I get my new camera. Looking forward to getting into "real" photography and am reading a good technical book to prepare.

Just read this Avril and I'm wondering which book you've read that you find a good technical one... I'm also looking at getting a better camera, either a Canon or Nikon, this summer, and would like to do a whole lot of reading first ---

Joanne--it's called Complete Digital Photography, by Ben Long, and it's very comprehensive. There are newer editions than I've got, I'm sure. And I've now got a Nikon D300, which I'm very pleased with, and have not yet learnt all the ins and outs of. Got an 18-200 lens to go with it, and haven't needed anything else, in case you're interested. I'd lend you this book but I'm actually still plowing through it, when I get the time and the inclination.
