Hello fellow photographers. I attended my first meeting of the club this month and really appreciated the format, how informal it was and what sort of comments were made on the photos that were being critiqued. Though I'm not very knowledgeable on the technical side I have an interest in learning all that stuff, with a view to getting an SLR camera and using it well. I learnt about the club on the Salt Spring community list (bless it!). For the last 5 years I've been using my photos to put out a Salt Spring calendar, most years with a friend, but in 2008 by myself, and I also use them to make photo cards which I sell at the Saturday market and in various stores. Though I enjoy taking those more popular sorts of shots, I really like to experiment, too, and I have done quite a bit of photo-shopping (different program, though) and am happy to spend hours and hours at it, as my husband can attest. Lately I've worked on a black and white series called "The Monday night poker club", which I enjoyed just as much as the poker, though there were definitely some shots that worked better than others. Looking forward to the next meeting, and thank you all for being so welcoming to people who are not as knowledgeable as yourselves. Avril Kirby
