Posted on September 2, 2018 at 3:53pm 0 Comments

Sorry this is late  buy everyone in our club is hereby invited to my wife's(Jan Sharkey Thomas") art exhibit at Gallery 8 from August 31 to Sept., 8, 2018. I couldn't get time on  my computer to do this sooner and I did ask some other club members to pass the word so here it is in writing. My wife is very ill and Gallery 8 asked if they could do a a "one man/woman show on her 88th birthday (Aug. 28th).

Happy Valentines Day

Posted on February 13, 2018 at 6:42pm 3 Comments

Wishing all the members of our club a happy and sensuous Valentines Day!  Most of you know me but for everyone - I have always cherished the moments we spend together - the activities we accomplish and the wonderful images we produce. It is a day of admiration and , although I have been tardy as of late (never at our online site) I admire and value all the work we display and envy the outstanding talent produced by our group.

Saluting you with a glass of champagne and a wreath…

Condolences on the Passing of Greg Klassen

Posted on October 4, 2017 at 2:47pm 8 Comments

Many condolences on the passing of one of our distinguished members who spread his love and knowledge of Photography throughout the community.  He will be missed by many - Seldom have I seen such dedication and immersion in our favorite pastime  - his creativity was amazing and his willingness to share and involve his peers in his projects was heart warming and a pleasure to be part of.

Happy Father's Day!

Posted on June 18, 2017 at 3:30pm 0 Comments

As many of you know I was blessed to be a father eight times. In the capacity of being kind of a spokesman for this group - I want to wish all the fathers in our club a Very Happy Fathers Day.

Its a great assignment and gives many of us a lot of "material" to use in our imaging processes.

Enjoy the day! Its been a "heady" responsibility but we have been up to it!

Thanks, Cliff. The quality of this image of mine isn't great, but the landscape here is magical, so had to try a photo with my iPad. Am using my Nikon and will be able to post images from it in a couple of weeks. Have you ever been here?

Great to hear from you so soon, Cliff. Thanks. I love Arbutus trees and am constantly trying to take something original to communicate their great grace and beauty. Appreciate your words.

Brian, I have lived a full life and have been in several professions. Throughout all these I have a steady thread of photographic experience. First I am a retired Gunnery Sgt, in the U.S.Marine Corps.,Next I was in the restaurant business in San Diego, CA. for three years, but opted out because it was just too time consuming(I was suddessful at it thought)t. Next I returned to school and went to college for four years and then the University of San Diego for four years , accumulating three degrees in Social Work and Publllic Administration. I am a retired Social Work Supervisor from San Diego County.During that time I did some counseling and some college instructing. During all these experiences I was the father of seven children and adopted the daughter of my former wife. I am now married to my High School Sweetheart. I am a Pro.

This group will infuse some new energy and direction into the Club. Feedback from club members indicates that people would like more interactive educational activities (workshops, classes, small field trips etc.) and maybe a schedule of educational opportunities ahead of time so that people can plan to attend.

The Victoria Camera Club has an external speaker every month and are willing to share their list of speakers so we can participate, at a cost of $5 a person. The club has funds to cover this at the moment. This would require using the  Zoom format (which has worked so well during this Pandemic).

Club meetings will resume in October, giving this new group time to work out their ideas for new directions.

Some people are cautious about in person meetings (because of health issues) and others are ready and able to jump back in. Maybe in person meetings and Zoom meetings can co-exist. Something to talk about.

Maureen has offered to look into a monthly newsletter with, possibly, more coverage than the website offers such as emails, using facebook etc.

Avril would like to see an improved use of the website: more posts, more comments, more helpful critiquing. We might need a refresher course to remind us how to give constructive feedback.

Doug has a show about Covid in September at the library -  in the Community Program Room. He will give a talk on September 7th at Noon. This will be previously unseen material, not the triptychs we have seen on the website.

Photosynthesis has a virtual show coming up, starting on August 31st. Some club members also belong to this photography group.

There is no theme yet for the photography challenge in October but when that is decided it will be communicated to everyone.
