October show discussion: Claudia

At present there are insufficient quality images for the show. Please provide her a selection of quality resolution images, preferably 3 so that she can select 1 that will go towards creating the show. The Theme is “The Living Spirit”, a collection of images that are “uplifting, moving and inspirational”, much needed in our current troubled times. cschroderadams@gmail.com

Steering Committee Meeting:

The Steering Committee met in July to discuss policies for membership fees, reminders and due dates which were attached to this meeting’s agenda. The Dues Policy was approved unanimously as written, and will be posted soon in a location accessible to all members.

Club Leadership discussion:

Gwen reinforced that her role as meeting facilitator is a temporary one, and that ongoing plans for Club leadership need to be in place by the end of the year at the latest. Several ideas were discussed, including increased efforts to involve the youth in our membership and to reach out to the photography teachers at GISS. Pierre suggested that an elder from the club might work with someone from the youth wing of the club making joint co-decisions about speakers and a number of events. Judy offered to get together with Gwen to brainstorm ideas for continuation and how to communicate what the role entails on a regular basis. Chas suggested an event for youth that removes barriers of expenses. Judy suggested that such an event might be arranged for October 2027. Winter works at Apple Photo and would be willing to approach his management to ask if discounts for youth photo printing might be considered.

Speaker: Fernando Garcia Vicario

Fernando offered a fascinating presentation on Photo Stacking

He showed examples of a single exposure of his flower where only the edge of the petals were in focus due to the collapse of depth of field with macro lenses, whereas the exposure which is stacked from a total of 91 images shows the entire flower with the best sharpness, contrast and colour. Higher quality images may have over 200 stacked frames. Helicon Focus is the specialty software Fernando uses that makes light work of stacking these large RAW files.

Chris Dixon brought in several photography books that he is giving away. He is moving to San Miguel de Allende in Mexico.

Slideshow – Our Member’s theme slideshow for today is “Music”

September’s Challenge theme will be: Insects
