Summary of Eclectic Visions – Bernadette

  • Articles featuring Eclectic Visions were featured in both the Driftwood and the Fishbowl magazine.
  • There were enough posters, but too many flyers, or maybe there wasn’t enough pre-distribution to friends.
  • The People’s Choice award was won by Colton, for a $50 Gift Card for Salt Spring Inn. Congratulations Colton! The green dots on photos, used to designate the People’s Choice, need to be larger for better visibility.
    •
  • Next year a 2-hour window for taking in photos and taking them down seems more reasonable
  • Entry form needs to be redesigned because the print is very small
  • Sandwich boards need repair.
  • Finances for the show:

We sold $1961 worth of photos and we had 850+ visitors.

We made the rent for the show!

Fall Show – Claudia

Thus far, 19 people have expressed interest in participating in the October show, “The Living Spirit”. There is still some room for some additional photos; contact Claudia asap if you plan to participate. Her e-address is cschroderadams@gmail.com.

Due dates:

  • By July 31 please submit 3-4 images. At this stage, so that they can be mailed more easily,  they do not need to be in the highest resolution.
  • By August 15 Claudia will have made the selections.
  • By September 20 she will need the framed photographs. These need to be in high resolution, and should not be too much larger than about 20 by 16 inches.

Please choose a subject that will really show “Spirit” so that people who visit leave with a feeling of being uplifted.

You can utilize frames that you already have in your collections and are fitting for the piece,  rather than trying to achieve an all black frame esthetic.

There are new members who will need Claudia’s email address so that they can find out the details. Pierre will send out a reminder message to everyone so they can reach out to her.

Speaker:

Andy Doyle-Linden is our local Salt Spring Groove magazine photographer and tonight’s guest speaker.

Started taking photos of his son’s football team and describes himself as semi-professional.

Emphasizes having the finished photo produced 12-24hrs following the event. People are still emotionally charged at this time, as opposed to time going by when the excitement has gone down.

Andy has chosen a more contemplative aspect to the Groove Noir for his subjects and moved away from the excitement of the event itself.

Andy spoke about a very strong level of trust between the artist and the photographer and answered questions about how he goes about his work and the importance of developing relationships with the musicians.

He takes about 1000 images at a big show, and boils it down to 25-30 that he keeps and 15 that are final choices.

Salt Spring Groove is a ‘Not for Profit’ organization. A food bank fundraiser is coming up on August 14th. Tickets go on sale July 1. A Groove fund has been set up to provide high school kids with funds to help with an arts scholarship. Next annual magazine will be out in November.

Woodland is playing Friday nights June 12 and 19th from 7-9 at Mahon Hall, with a suggested donation of $10

Slideshow – Our Member’s theme slideshow for Abstract Photography

Media was missing the necessary file for the slide show,  so the Abstract show will be shown next month.

The August Slideshow theme will be ‘Music’

BC Yukon Speaker Series:

Pierre sent information out regarding this series on June 15th;  if you didn’t receive it, please ask him to re-send.
