Eclectic Visions

Judy outlined the timeline of tasks that need to be taken on by members due to Maggie’s recent injury.

Two week show at Gallery 8. Dates are May 15-28. Rental is $1800

We need 27-30 members to commit to a spot, in order to cover rental and expenses. A spot is 36” wide; can be 1 to 3 images depending on size; entry fee $75

Tasks and contract signing need to be undertaken this month

More than 10 members in attendance indicated they were interested in showing their work this year.

Bernadette stepped up to act as this year’s coordinator, and we discussed having a volunteer roster of people who would run with the various tasks outlined in Judy’s list.

Pierre brought forward the idea that we use AI to generate an updated press release and promotions for various media outlets.

Noel offered to do some write ups for press release & media.

April Meeting

Alternate date of April 15 was scheduled at the library since we were informed the room was not available on the 8^th.  Some attendees felt it may be better to be consistent with the original date of April 8^th and that other venues such as Harbour House, Lions club, the United Church and Portlock Park have meeting rooms. Harbour House rental is approximately $80 and they provide coffee, tea and cookies. Decision is that Judy will contact Harbour House; if not available Curt will make calls to the United Church (nice and dark) to see if the 8^th is available. If none is suitable or available, we will use the alternative date of the 15^th at the library.

Thus far only 1/3 of members have paid their 2026 dues. Pat plans to send out a reminder.

A new master list has been created with email addresses that are up to date.

Discussion surrounded the update of the mailing list. Curt indicated that once members have renewed their membership, the updated mailing list will be available for members who need to send a message out to all group members

January lobby show: Written report from Wendy:  38 photos from 18   

   photographers; 2 photos sold. Special thanks to those who helped to hang photos and take down the show

Howard Fry’s show in Program Room at the Library in January was very successful and may even result in the booking of a sitting. Of note, he has several Fujinon lenses for sale

Originally a football photographer, and now has a focus on live music artists; his work appears in SSI Groove Magazine

Pierre urges all members to be on the lookout for good speakers, and to communicate these ideas to Judy, as our new education coordinator.

Salt Spring Film Festival:

The Photo club is sponsoring the film, Our Mr. Matsura, showing Saturday and Sunday  Feb28 th and March 1^st at 10AM. This is an excellent film about a Japanese photographer who emigrated to Okanagan county in Washington state in the early 1900s, documenting the rural life of the people of the area. Terri Wyllie and John de Bruyn will be there to introduce the film.

Judy is contacting Lady Minto hospital to determine if they still want our photos for the reel in the Emergency Room and clinical lab.

We also recently installed our slideshow at the Visitor Information Center and an updated reel has been requested.

Salt Spring Inn has not been running the TVs with images for a long time.

Program: David du Chemin “Shoot What it Feels Like” (video)

It was decided at 8:30pm that due to available time remaining we will defer showing this video until the March meeting.

Slideshow theme: Birds, and/or Winter Blooming flowers

16 Members submitted photos of beautiful birds from many areas of the world, including here at home. We also enjoyed a glimpse of the blooms we are starting to see in our gardens.

Pierre reminds us that images for the slideshow need to be at least 1800 pixels in order to show well on the large screen.

Next Month’s Challenge Theme?      

Suggestion: Feelings, Love, and possibly also Butterflies

Discussion surrounding whether photos submitted should be new photos on the topic given at the meeting, or if it is ok to go through one’s archives and find a relevant photo from existing ones.

While new photos are preferred, it was decided that it is OK if the photos are not new so as not to discourage people from submitting them.

Group Outings:

We would like to start up with some group outings with specific themes (such as night photography, Butchart Gardens, Winery, etc). Anyone wishing to organize an outing please do so and let us know; we can send out a notice.

There is a car full of people going to the Butterfly gardens on the 9:50am Fulford ferry next Wednesday, February 18^th. More people who would like to go would need a driver with a car to pool others. Pat will send an email out to the mailing list to see who else would like to go. Terri would like to go and has space in her car for 3 other people.
