Reports:
Steering Committee: The Steering Committee is a new entity tasked with drafting policies for membership approval and addressing issues requiring timely decision-making. The first meeting was held July 2nd. Members include Judy McPhee, Wendy Rosier, Pierre Mineau, Curt Firestone, Gwen McDonald, Pat Page and Terri Wyllie. Going forward, there will be regular reports from the committee, including recommendations for membership approval.
Pierre and Wendy set up today’s meeting both in person and by Zoom to test the feasibility of using both approaches for future in-person meetings. The main issue reported by Wendy was muffled sound, especially problematic when attendees did not use the mic when speaking. If deemed successful, we may adopt this hybrid format for meetings.
Pat Page, our club treasurer, will begin submitting quarterly financial reports to the Steering Committee, plus an annual financial report to the membership at our January AGM.
Speaker: Amy Melious
Amy spoke from the heart about her personal journey in photography dating back decades, and about how her love of science has influenced her work over the years. She started with a focus on darkroom work, black and white photography, and photojournalism, using her images to tell a story.
She spoke about the language within the photo and showing who someone is.
By processing and adding hand-painted colour (Marshall’s Oils) in the darkroom, she produced a unique effect and was able to translate this to the digital world.
We saw some examples of her work on different print “paper” mediums such as linen and selenium following the slideshow.
Member Slideshow: Abstract Photography was our theme for the July meeting.
The theme for August will be “Music”.
