Kudos to Bill.  He did a wonderful job today of hosting the Cowichan Valley Camera Club on our behalf.

The whole day went smoothly.  Our guests were both pleased and thankful.

Fifteen SS club members are now looking forward to visiting Cowichan Valley in two weeks.

Sept. 12, 2012  - Minutes

 1.  Opening remarks:  Curt (El Prez) gave a wonderful big pat on the back to the membership (that’s us) - for all of the member’s activity over the summer --- we were showing everywhere and the images were commented on favourably by locals and visitor’s alike.  Our work even inspired many to pick up their camera’s again to play…. Mission accomplished all….. well…

The Salt Spring Arts Council is currently accepting applications for Showcase Exhibitions 2013. Application deadline is 30 October 2012.   Applications are due at the end of October.

Sam Lightman of the Club showed his work this way last year.

October is our month to exhibit at the Country Grocer, and as previously published, Margaret Benmore had requested the whole show for her images, she is scheduled to do that. I have planned to do the hanging on Sunday , September 30, 2012 at 7:00 PM and will be there to assist, as always.  

I had planned a trip to the raptor center for interested members but unexpected events have prevented me from doing this. I also noted that some members that had shown an interest have gone on their own anyway. Visiting the center is very simple and there is no actual "special benefit" to a "group" visit other than the wonderful camaraderie we have with each other, but I encourage anyone who wants to visit there to just do so. My secret tonight in getting two shots in our site was to put the first one in about 5 minutes to midnight and the second one in about 5 minutes after. I still need to witness someone do it the other way.

Tomorrow should be another day for photo ops in the harbor - don't miss it!

Opening reception at the Gallery in Grace Point from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM tonight.

It is a mix of creative expression from Gallery 8 artists and their companions.

Friday August 31 at 7:000 PM is the time I have scheduled to take down the images that we have there. Since I have another commitment I have managed to contact Anna who will handle the removal. Elehna had contacted me because her group is going to hang their show as soon as we remove ours. Anna had already contacted Elehna and arrangements will be going forth as planned and I expect it will be a smooth transition.

Margaret Benmore had a last minute family issue and was not at the meeting.  No real minutes this month.  I am leaving for 10 days early in the AM and am a shity secretary.

Kim Lavender-Kitchen spoke on birth photography.

Curt made a few announcements of club members shows currently on island.  Check out: Fernwood cafe, Embe Bakery and Country Grocer Cafe walls.

Well my panic over losing my hotmail has subsided and they have restored it in its entirety.

It is now back to  gykelly2@hotmail.com for anyone to use.

My long time hotmail address has been compromised. Microsoft is working to correct the poblem but I have an additional e-mail addres that I invite anyone to use. My new e-mail address is gykelly2@gmail.com

Our library has put out the call for artists and that includes photographers to have their work purchased by and hung in the new library.  This is a competitive opportunity for Salt Springers.  Submissions must be made by September 14 and the final art piece must be ready by Oct. 29.
