November 11, 2015

 

Opening: a happy but disorderly crowd gathered at Harbour House for our meeting... Wendy herded us into out seats and announced a whole whack of stuff....

 

New Members: we welcome Larry Citra to this fantastic group of Individuals... I am sure he will find it interesting and fun, when he gets to know us... welcome Larry...

 

Announcements: 

        

         Monday Coffee Clatch... Monday Coffee will continue to be in the back corner booth at the SaltSpring Inn... at 10’ish.... come on out and get to really “know” your fellow club members...

You can asked technical questions, spread gossip, swap lies... it is generally a free for all... a great place to ask those questions about photography or life that you have never had the nerve to ask – there will always be several answers and sometimes some real expertise...

 

         Club Seasonal Greetings to the Island...  we have the Venue (Fernwood Café... Dec. 12 – Jan 16) now we need your help... We would like to hang a collection of Festive images taken by the members of the Photo Club... If you are interested in participating... Please let me know [e-mail] ... and we will see what develops...

 

Think diversity of the celebrations at this time of year... think bold, think glitter and sparkle... think what you like...

 

So far I have about 6 people interested... the more the Merrier...

Come get involved...  Add to the message of Thankfulness for our community, our island and a message for Love and Peace to the world...

 

There will be a Club Coffee Clatch at Fernwood... Sunday Dec. 13^th around 3:00... Come on out, have a treat and coffee and wish each other well....  and see how the Club sends Tidings to the world...

 

         ArtSpring Lobby Show:   Jan 4 – 30^th... This is a wonderful island/Club event... it is our opportunity to brighten up the doldrums of winter on the Rock... and it is our time to Rock too... The show is of your favourite/Best/etc... the size is unlimited, the number is possibly 2 or 3 images...  The lobby is huge and lots of hanging room... So really strut your stuff... 

 

For those of you new to the club and still now sure about participating in shows... this is a great introduction and it such fun to go to ArtSpring events and listen to the buzz... or show off your work... come on out a play with us...

 

Bob Rogers will be coordinating the show... he will need hangers and people with taste... to help with the hanging... if you are interested in helping or learning how to hang a show... Bob is a Master Show Hanger with years and years of experience...

         PARC’s Invitation – Photo 101... we have been invited by PARC to develop and deliver an introductory short course on photography... Bob Roger, Jana Zachariou, Pierre Mineau and Ramona Lam will be working together on this project... That will be one GREAT introduction to Photography... lucky folks...

 

Shows:

         Fernwood Café: until November 21... Anna McColm will be showing her beautiful West Coast – The Cape Scott Series... always a pleasure to share her perspective of B.C’s beautiful coast... Especially with a bowl of Jen’s soup or grilled cheese sandwich...

         Pemberton Holmes:  Presently Avril Kirby and Anna McColm are showing at PH

There is an opportunity for anyone to hang their work at PH... the space takes ten 16X20 images...  or smaller of course... or larger but fewer... The theme is SaltSpring Images is very loosely defined... if you are interested in showing here just email me... [e-mail] and I will add you to the rotating team...

It’s a fun place to show... it helps to sell the island and the island atmosphere... hmmmmm????

         TJ’s Beans Coffee House:  is looking for images to deck their walls... Doug Wahlston will be looking into the schedule there for us...

         Bank of Montreal:  Doug Wahlston is presently showing at this new venue and is looking into setting up a relationship with the club to adopt it as a show place for the members...

         Country Grocer Café:  Doug McMillin is “Back by Popular Demand”... it is a lovely green show... very lush and peaceful...

         Embe’s Café:  Avril is showing until Nov. 30^th... stop by and take a gander...

         ArtSpring’s Ladies Room... only space in town with no Club member showing... Bob Roger’s will see to arranging the takeover of the washroom too... stand by for updates

 

With all of these venues showing the members work... it is fun to share your work with friends and stranger... I repeatedly hear words of appreciation for the images that come up on the screens of Lady Minto... it is wonderful to know that it is giving folks some relief from their worries for a moment.... Thanks to all of you for contributing it is making a difference in our Community.... keep it up....

 

Educational Segment: Lenses and Clarity... Bob Rogers again took us through some of the finer points with lenses, how do you know that you have a problems and how to fix it or compensate for it... This man is a wizard with the inside of a camera... not bad with the picture taking too....   Thanks Bob...

 

Evening Show/Challenge:  “Remembrance”  - Doug (bless him) has posted November’s Show on the website – it was a loving show, it showed compassion, it showed respect...  There was beautiful use of light to capture silence, thought and calm...  There was the use of framing to tell the stories...  be they huge flowered vista’s or close personal space... The stories attached to the images were tender and loving.... and respectful... It was a thoughtful set of images and stories... Thank you all for sharing with us so beautifully...

Whoa ???  Is that Toooooo SaltSpring or is it okay to say... I mean IT – it was a beautiful show... go look at it on the site ... 

 

Next Meeting:  

Wednesday, December 9^th, 2015

Harbour House… 7:00 pm

The challenge:  For the month of December the challenge is        “ Festive ” ... you can use the same image you put in the Fernwood Festive Show... or different ones or additional ones...

The December Educational event will be a presentation on PhotoSynthesis and the work they are doing... it should be very interesting as they are wonderful group of artists/photographers...

 

Editorial aside: If you have any comments, corrections or additions please feel free --- all help is welcome…

I would like to encourage all club members to take part in the conversations on the website --- they are interesting and endlessly informative…  Share your pictures with the club on the site – you know we all love to look at images and it would give us a chance to get to know a little bit about you …  let’s participate…
