Photo Club Minutes

September 9, 2015

Opening: (aprox. 15 warm bodies) Curt Firestone opened the meeting with some god awful pipe/whistle thingy… where does this man find these toys… Curt moved quickly and easily into his old post to relieve Wendy Rossier, who is in Toronto with a Show Opening (we are with you in spirit Wendy)… enjoy it…

New Members: Peter Freeman, Dave Seifer – come on out and play with us…

Announcements:  Simon Henson will be presenting a series of workshops “Putting the Art into Photography”  the workshop is designed to develop your photography by enhancing your visual perception and knowledge of design.

This four session workshop explores the components of aesthetics and composition through presentations, and group interactivity.  See the website for the full details… under Events… Go for it Simon is a wonderful instructor...

Shows:

Fernwood Café: From September 19th will be Margaret C. Benmore (me) the show is “Reflections of Venice”… it is shows my view of Venice a magical place…  Venice has reflections on many  levels… physical, mental, spiritual, and artistically and so on… what a place to play with reflections and glitz and a camera…

Pemberton Holmes: Bob Roger is presenting his work “Things” … catchy title Bob…. To see “Things” drop by for a peek…

Country Grocer Café Gallery: Margaret C. Benmore (me, again) will be showing for the month of September … a show of graffiti images from Croatia and Italy… lots of colour..

Roasting Company: Avril is showing us her wild side, her creative side and her just mucking about side…” Song of Self” is a wonderful demonstration of fun and interesting experimentation and exploration within photography… great fun…

If you know of other shows in town… add them on to this blog or better yet post it on the event section of our website… Let us all know what you have found and enjoyed….

Educational Segment:    “How do you Choose #2”  This second in the series brought us Avril Kirby, Judy McPhee and Jacqueline Sutton, who each presented two or three of each of their latest photographic efforts.  Not only was the artistry wonderful, but the creative energy was marvelous.  Each of them put huge amounts of thought into their work.  Each of them took the time necessary to make their images work for the viewer.

“Where do you get the inspiration?” was a question asked but not answered.  Inspiration comes from deep inside each of us.  I did a little web searching and came upon this quote.

“There’s no hard and fast rule to achieve creative photography nor are there guidelines and steps to think out of the box. But one thing’s for sure, for those who create some of the most creative photos in the world, they have great passion for photography and some years of practice and experience.”

As shown last night at our meeting, the practice and experience have manifested themselves to some creative, thoughtful artistic work from Avril, Judy and Jacqueline.

Evening Show/Challenge:  “Soft ”  - Doug (bless him) has posted the September Show on the website so you can see it for yourself… all things soft, it is quite amazing what a little four letter word can conjure up in the minds of our membership…  go spend some soft time on the website and look at the show...

Next Meeting:

Harbour House… 7:00 pm

The Challenge for next month:   “ Regal “ as a tribute to the Queen – we are to turn out thoughts and visions to REGAL… now that can be anything you wish… but must capture the essence or attitude or look of Regal… Regal is fit for a Monarch… Have fun with the assignment and take it on out there…

Editorial aside: If you have any comments, corrections or additions please feel free --- all help is welcome…

I would like to encourage all club members to take part in the conversations on the website --- they are interesting and endlessly informative…  Share your pictures with the club on the site – you know we all love to look at images and it would give us a chance to get to know a little bit about you …  let’s participate…

Thanks for your patience...

Cheers… MCB
