Photo Club Minutes

October 14, 2015

 

Opening:  again a couple of dozen people... it is fun to hear the buzz in the room before the meeting... everyone catching up and swapping tales...

Wendy tried to gain control of the unruly mob... ( JJJ )... she is so polite... thanks Wendy for doing the President thing... you are doing a good job....

 

New Members: Danelia Dino and Illia Paton... welcome to you both... hope you have as much fun as we do... come on out and participate...  

 

Announcements: 

         Monday Coffee Clatch... there was a great deal of discussion about possible locations and a few will be explored in more detail... In the meantime Monday Coffee will continue to be in the back corner booth at the SaltSpring Inn... Stay tuned for future adventures

 

         Wedding Photographer wanted... Wendy has posted the description of the assignment on the website along with contact information...  It is a wonderful opportunity to do some fun things... weddings on SSI are very special...

 

         Simon Henson will be presenting “Putting the Art into Photography” the third in the series will be October 22... it is a wonderful opportunity to focus on the elements of design...

 

         Club Seasonal Greeting to the Island...  we have the Venue (Fernwood Café Dec. 12 – Jan 16) now we need your help... We would like to hang a collection of festive images taken by the members of the Photo Club... if you are interested in participating... let me know [e-mail] ... and we will see what develops... think diversity of the celebrations at this time of year... think bold, think glitter and sparkle... think what you like...

 

Come get involved, add to the message of thankfulness for our community, our island and a message for love and peace to the world...

 

         Storage space for EV racks and sandwich boards, Wendy asked for some help in that department... Elehna has graciously volunteered some space...  thanks Elehna...

 

 

Shows:

         Fernwood Café: From October 25^th... Anna McColm will be showing her beautiful West Coast – The Cape Scott Series... always a pleasure to share her perspective of B.C’s beautiful coast... especially with a bowl of Jen’s soup...

         Pemberton Holmes:  There is presently an opportunity for someone to hang their work there... the space take ten 16X20 images...  The theme is SaltSpring Images and that is very loosely defined... if you are interested in showing here just email me... [e-mail] and I will add you to the rotating team...

It’s a fun place to show... it helps to sell the island and the island atmosphere... hmmmmm????

 

Educational Segment:    “How do you Choose”  The third in the series presented Elehna DeSousa, Bernadette MacAllister, and Wendy Rosier....  what a wonderful contrast in styles, processes and personalities... each presented the images they choose for EV and discussed the decision making process...

Elehna was Poetry in Motion, Bernadette was about pushing the envelop and doing something unexpected... Wendy is about happenstance and purity... very different moods and themes... but all shared a wonderful level of craftspersonship... and design... Thanks all for sharing your process...

 

Evening Show/Challenge:  “Regal, Royal or Noble ”  - Doug (bless him) will be posting October’s Show on the website soon... wander over and see what can be done with Regal/Royal/Noble... It is amazing... of course there is a amoured doge’ish person on high horse... there is Rachel in a crown, looking good girl...  a tiny bird looking though the window at a glass bird and wondering if it is his mother...

Noble were wonderful feather headdresses and traditional portraits, it was Elizabeth May cutting a cake on SSI... Elehna got play Queen for a day and order the minions around... well done my dear...

Go the website and see for yourself... it is fun and very interesting... make up your own explanations.... they all have a story... It was indeed a Show fit for Royalty...

The challenge for next month:  Since the next meeting is on November 11^th (Remembrance Day)... Wendy and I thought it appropriate to have “ Remembrance ” and  ” Peace “ as the options to our monthly challenge.

I would like to encourage all club members to take part in the conversations on the website --- they are interesting and endlessly informative…  Share your pictures with the club on the site – you know we all love to look at images and it would give us a chance to get to know a little bit about you …  let’s participate…
