Photo Club Minutes

August 12, 2016

Opening:  (approx. 16 give or take a body or two) Wendy once again to gain some control over the boisterous group of enthusasts… okay maybe a bit of overkill… but everyone seemed to be having a good time… and that is good…

New Members: Aya Watanabe, Randy Belanger, Peter Freeman – come on out and play with us…

Announcements:

         Photo Op:  SPCA Fundraiser Calendar

Shawn from the SPCA is looking for images of Men and their Cats… which leaves lots to imagination… they want to show the diversity of men & cats on SSI… Wendy has posted the details on the club website… come on lets show him what we can do ---have fun with it…

Shows:

Fernwood Café: Avril Kirby is showing her work at Fernwood this month… the opening is on Sunday 23, 2-4pm … it is a great place for a coffee milkshake… The photos are delightful, colourful and varied… always a treat to see Avril’s work…

Pemberton Holmes: Bob Roger is presenting his work “Things” … catchy title Bob…. To see “Things” drop by for a peek…

Country Grocer Café Gallery: Margaret C. Benmore (me) will be showing for the month of September … a show of graffiti images from Croatia and Italy… lots of colour..

jOnezi – “aRt pArty”   Sept 6 at 3 pm and Sept: 7 at 12 am… see details on the events listing on our site…

PhotoSynthesis: is again at ArtSpring August 27th to September 8… always a special show and it is feature some of our members work… be sure to catch it…

If you know of other shows in town… add them on to this blog or better yet post it on the event section of our website… Let us all know what you have found and enjoyed….

Educational Segment:    “How do you Choose”  was a presentation by three members on how they made the decision of what to submit for the Eclectic Visions show…

MCB (me) showed the various candidate images in the running and explained the careful scientific process used to narrow it down… and the rationale for the final choice… basically it was close your eyes and point… much like my photography…

Bob Rogers… presented his process, which was very organized, analytical and rational… but then it would be wouldn’t it… nice work Bob…

Jana Zachariou… presented her tried and true method of general consultation with family and friends… and then picking the one you like anyway…  she also converted us all into to Booth Bay watchers with her amazing sky and water work… thanks Jana..

Evening Show/Challenge:  “Sharp” – as always the members were very Sharp… Doug (bless him) has posted the August Show on the website so you can see it for yourself… brambles, swords of honour, still-life of Hypodermic needles and an homage to the SSI knife sharpener… it was a vey pointy type of show…

Next Meeting:

Wednesday, September 9, 2015

Harbour House… 7:00 pm

The challenge for next month:   “ Soft“  there are so many ways to illustrate the concept of soft… soft to the touch, soft in colour, soft in content… and the various kinds of soft … it will be a lovely cozy show I am sure… have fun with it and really show us what you can do with SOFT…

Editorial aside: If you have any comments, corrections or additions please feel free --- all help is welcome…

I would like to encourage all club members to take part in the conversations on the website --- they are interesting and endlessly informative…  Share your pictures with the club on the site – you know we all love to look at images and it would give us a chance to get to know a little bit about you …  let’s participate…

Thanks for your patience...

Cheers… MCB

Thanks Margaret.  Great to learn about the meeting which I missed.  The Kraft Project Play brought the SSI community together in a wholesome endeavor.  Thanks to the SS Tennis Assoc.  The $25,000 prize will be used at Portlock Park to improve the tennis courts!!  As you say, "come out and play tennis".  Fun for everyone.
