March 14, 2012  - Minutes

Eclectic Vision (the Club's annual show at ArtSpring):

Will be from June 1-18 - this covers 3 weekends.  It was decided that Bob Rogers will be the hanger for the show this year and his word will be final --- however he does need lots of helpers... so come on out and help -- it is fun...   Stay tuned for details of timelines and assignments

Lady Minto, Fritz, Harbour House Slideshows:

Wendy Rosier  reports  our next  project, collecting Summer or whatever shots for a new slideshow/video to add to the Harbour House and Lady Minto monitors, we need horizontal (landscape) images with a Spring theme.  They should be 1920 px x 1080 px at least and saved in high quality (100%) Jpeg file format.  When you have something to send in, email Wendy  at pr@ssphotog.ca

Harbour House Wall Space Opportunity:

Evidently if anyone one is interested in exhibiting their work on the walls of Harbour House (Lobby and Restaurant, I think) they should contact Nathan at Harbour House for details and information

5.  Upcoming Educational Event:

Wed. March 21 – Wildlife Photograph and more than just behind the camera…. Simon will be facilitating the session, which will include photographic tips, ideas and strategy, but he also wants to discuss some strategies of nature, the environment and the critters that we can use to our advantage as photographer….. like how to find the damn moose in the first place….. count me in Simon…  if you have some wildlife/nature images you would like to share forward to  simonhenson@mac.com  - the good the bad and the ugly --- all make good discussion points….

6. Suggestions for Educational Events:

Does anyone have any suggestions for future Educational events – so far we have had wonderful presentations and they are all very instructive and inspiring...  If you have any ideas contact any of the Exec. We will point it in the right direction….

7.  Non Photographic Art Group:

Hope you have been checking out this group on the website --- it is delightful to see people you know from a different perspective and broader look than just the pixels…  Join the fun… let us see another side of you.

8.  Next Meeting: Wed. April 11, 2012 - 7:00 pm -  Portock Portable...    The theme of the April meeting will be “OBESSION’ this is pretty much wide open --- family rating though… It could be your obsession within photography, it could be your obsessive collections or any other thing that compulsively tickles your fancy….  Forward you 2 images to Doug as soon as possible as this is going to take some creativity on his part to choreograph.

9.  April’s Educational Presentation:  --- I’ll have to give you an update later as my memory has faded with the seafood salad sandwich...   she is from Savory Island, specializing in portraits weddings and special events… and has a humming website… I promise to update you very soon --- but it sounds like it will be interesting, educational and inspiring… come on out and get some tips for improving your shoots… even to grandma/pa shots could be lots better don’t you think….

10. The Evening Educational Event was on Image sizing and Resolution….   A Panel lead by Simon Henson (man of many many talents) consisted of Wendy Rosier, Rachel Page, Tom James --- all very well versed in the issues and solutions.  The discussion was lively and sometimes a tad technical but there was lots to be learned by the neophytes like me…. I saw many ah ha’s around the room – that is always a good sign in a learning environment… Now even I know what a pixel is and a Dot and the difference between the two …. Thank you all… good job…

If I have missed anything please feel free to add it on --- or make editorial comments...  and corrections… this is a participatory sort of minute’s… thanks.

Spring is finally here and it is a great time to burst out the camera with the daffodils and cherry blossoms….. Go out there and have some fun…

Cheers… MCB
