My redheaded pileated friend on another visit and was persuaded to be closer so that I could resolve the slightly out of focus image of him I showed last week.

Well I noticed some noise and wanted to post it before the midnight deadline so I did nothing to correct. it. I was using my 16-85 Nikon Zoom at about 70m because I wanted to get a close up and I was standing behond a window about 8 feet from the  bird. I keep two cameras at my desk, for various reasons, that looks out on my backyard. I picked up my 300, forgetting that I had been taking some modeling shots of two of my wife's paintings - I photograph most of her work an she uses the images for evaluation purposes.I normally keep my 18-105 Nikon zoom on that camera so I had to just shoot - this bird does not hang around and pose if you ask him to. My ISO was 400 and my lens setting was 6.5. The light was'nt great and about 12 images out of 30 were passable. Tracking made it difficult and trying to compensate for the difference in lens, the settings "I wish I had made" and hoping my auto focus was given enough time to adjust were my main concerns and I do have some nice full body images but I will have to correct noise on them before I do anything else.

These little fellows are so elusive:)

I'm inspired by your not giving up and getting such a great photo to keep trying with the pair that are eating the apples in our yard!  It's been fun trying to chase them around to the other side of the tree as they chatter away to each other...
