Announcements:
Club DVD... “Spring/Summer on SaltSpring”... everyone is invited to send Judy McPhee 10 images (landscape) she has posted the requirements and guidelines on the website... it is a fun project that brings a great deal of delight and relaxation to those who get to see it at the hospital... 3 screens are operating there (Emergency, Extended care and the Blood Station)... great Stress relief and passes waiting time in a beautiful way... well done Judy for producing them and to all who contribute too...
Educational Bit: our guest speaker was Janet Dwyer... She of Scanography fame... It was a fun and lively presentation with lots of questions and discussion... Janet shared in detail her process and working environment as well her growth over the years... Her shared enthusiasm for the whole process especially when it involves wrangling live critters on her scanner... Janet’s images are clean (she spends hours cleaning dust off the scanner)... Some of her images are gently disturbing with the juxtaposition of the materials in the image (bird skulls in flowers, frozen flowers)... Others are very simple, elegant and sophisticated... Great composition and colour ranges... Such variation and experimentation... She is definitely inspirational with her work... and is encouraging us all to play with the concept... explore the constructed composition in our photography... as she suggested next months challenge...
The April challenge: “Arrangements” inspired by Janet’s presentation you are challenged to produce an image... contrived with purpose... an arrangement or Still Life...
A Still Life: Inanimate subject matter selected and arranged, with special attention to the control of composition, story, lighting and such... tell us a story with your image... you can do it using a scanner or just use your camera...
Evening Show/Challenge: “ Shadows & Reflections
It was a great show... fun to see what other people do with the topic and the wide variation of interpretations... go to website to view the show... Doug has posted it in the Blog section...
