It is a sea faring photography opportunity as a “ one day pass” on Friday June 23, 2017

It can be a good photo or a picture of the high seas.

The photos may come from a moving boat.

Further notice by e-mail to come. It will be awarded to who ever comes first.

Coming up for next months challenge will be Long Lens photos.

As March 8 is National Women's day pictures of women would be great.

This meetings presenter is Colton Prevost..

He joined the SSI Photography club after getting his first DLSR.

He had an amazing setup for his camera, lens and flash . There was also an arm-shoulder strap for the camera with out the tripod that gave him more mobility especially through the bush.. He had a 200-500 tele- converter, 700 mm full frame. The tripod had a gimble frame that gave him full movement of the camera, lens and flash. The flash unit was a mag beam which like a light house. The flash is used with tele-converter with F 8 boosts shadow detail, gives extra light and helps with color.

His wildlife photos of humming birds, eagles, ducks, swans, and song birds as well as deer and other critters were very beatiful. He had different exposures of the moon.

He talked about his shutter speeds and vibration reduction. In sport mode the image is locked

to see the image. Other modes jump. He uses manual mode for birds to capture flight, light and a shallow depth of field. With low light aperture is small.. with the long lens he can get close to birds with good focus. Humming birds require shutter speed of 4000 on his camera. Better cameras have shutter speeds of 8000. ISO is 1000. He talked about frame rate and crop sensor.

As for wildlife he sees where the animals live and get out early in the morning, before the light. He tries to set up his equipment as much as possible before the shoot. He likes to camp with his family and be near the wildlife.

When at Brackendale the eagle count was low. None the less he took pictures in overcast light and found that good light, early morning, or late afternoon was good for pictures and detail. The mid -day sun is too harsh. When he shoots into bushes he tries to pre focus, as auto focus is hard in low light. Pre -focus is very important in low light.

He talked about decouple the auto focus, and uses the back button to auto focus. He can adjust auto focus with long lens. To get the sharpness he has to be ready for the shot.

He talked about “steel eye “ with the flash and not to do photo burst.

His D750 camera has a dynamic range and he can underexpose a shot ISO – 1000, and can boost one stop and can equal the same exposure as ISO 2000.

He likes to shoot under exposed.

There was discussion regarding the “ shutter sound” around wildlife and how they may react with the shutter sound. A high pitch may sound aggressive to the bird or animal.

Birds respond better to a quiet shutter sound.

The tele- converter with the long lens, helps to obtain optimal sharpness.

Products vary with budget constraints. and the bigger better lenses are more expensive.

Overall his photos of the birds, wildlife and the moon were great.

The details were very apparent on some of the bird pictures.

After his talk he gave some demonstrations of his equipment to the group.
