Close up of Surf Scoter to show his unusual beak and great coloring. I could not get rid of the noise - I was a long way off and shooting fast. Will show larger group tomorrow.

They are indeed at the Churchill Road Beach. Their presence here usually means the herring aare depositing their eggs which the Scoters harvest. The bill is shaped the way is it to enable them easier access to shell fish. They love to stay in groups and if they are not in the entire group you will find them in smaller groups of 50 or so.When you go to photo them find a spot to settle down for a bit because you presence will keep them at a disance but your inactivity will allow them to come back in range.

Wonderful to see them. Are they at Churchill Road Beach?

There.s about 200 here so with the added attraction of the other water birds that join then there is quite an available group to shoot(with a camera).

They are peculiar looking birds, aren't they, Cliff?  I must get down there before they go, though they're at Fernwood, too.
