Hi all -- this is a pathetic call for help from the techno wizards in our group....
In a fit of efficiency the other day I was downloading (uploading?) my pictures from my camera to computer (usually a straight forward task even for me) -- and while doing several other household things at the same time --- I accidently didn't push the import button --- and in an over efficient way deleted all of the images from my camera ---
To make the whole story even more pathetic is --- the pictures were of my 1st grandson's 1st visit to SSI... ahhhhhhrrhhhhghhhh
So upon pannicking and reading the manual - it says that the images are not erased from the card, new ones are given new addresses... a glimmer of hope - but I have no idea what one does about that?
Secondly -- I found in my computer history for the day of the disaster there are some strange looking file names which could possible be picture files -- they are labelled ipmeta - so I'm thinking they might have been opened in iPhoto for the previewing before the import ?? - just a wild and hopeful guess --- again I have no idea what to do about this - as it opens - to "following file cannot be opened.. The file in unrecognized format..... not good ---- but hope springs eternal...
I am working on a Mac in Iphoto and the camera is Panasonic Lumix
Thus my pleading for techno help --- does anyone have any idea how to rescue me from situation.... it is soooooo pathetic really.... it's the ultimate photographers bleeding heart story isn't it.... tugs at the heart strings...
Thanks a million.... cheers.. MCB

Margaret,
Not to fret yet.
If I understand, you erased photos from your camera chip and have no other copies.
I have software that can restore them and we should get together. The software is on my laptop and with your chip I should be able to make you happy again. BUT...
1. Do not take any more photos using this chip.
2. Do not reformat the chip (I hope that is not how you lost them).
I am not a mac user, but ant file named 'ipmeta' (IPhoto META data?) is not an image, but is a 'companion' file for one, and could be expendible. Check with iphoto users first however.
About your chip, I will be at RoCo tomorrow AM if you would like to meet me there. If I restore your photos, you can pay for my coffee.
Doug
Thanks Doug -- I couldn't make it today -- but I will definitely buy that coffee. I knew someone somewhere could solve this for me. You are wonderful --
Could we meet in town tomorrow p.m. or could I bring it to you?
Thanks... cheers... MCB
I too have software that can rescue files from the chip even it it was re-formatted. Yes, I have it on my Mac. Please call me at 250-653-4563 or bring the chip to the Monday coffee-klatch at the harbour house on Monday, 10am.
Uri
Thanks Uri --- I'm going to have a go at it with Doug and if that doesn't work could I bring it to you... it is such a relief to know that there is help out there......... Can't make a.m. klatch - I'll call you -- thank you again...
Cheers... MCB
