This email came to me today.
Hello, I am part of the Competitions Committee for the Victoria Camera Club and we are looking for master or professional photographers to act as judges for 6 monthly competitions (Sept, Oct, Nov, Jan, Feb, March).
Each month we hold competitions in 8 different categories for three skill levels. Novice comps are judged internally within the club but we like to have external judges for the intermediate and advanced levels to remove any chance or perception of bias.
The categories we need judges for are:
Digital : Open, Nature, Creative, Theme (a different theme is chosen each month)
Prints: Open, Nature, Monochrome
Judging consist of scoring each image and giving text comments. The text comments are extremely important as these offer the club members a real learning opportunity. Digital images are judged through our website, so judges can be anywhere in the world.
We offer a rate of $1.50 per digital image and $2.00 per print image. On average a judge will be asked to look at about 50 images, depending on how many the judges feels they can handle in the time they have available. We do not expect a monthly commitment – you can judge once or many times over the year.
We will also be hosting a Canada-wide Portrait competition for CAPA (Canadian Association for Photographic Art) in March 2016 – we will need three judges.
Judging amateur competitions is a way to educate and encourage budding photographers in the photographic arts. I hope you will consider giving a few hours of your time to support our club. If you know and can recommend any other photographers that might be interested, please pass their name along to me.
Please respond to me if you are interested in judging for us and let me know what months you would be available.
