Eclectic Visions 2015:  Time: June 11-24

                                           Place:  Gallery 8, Grace Sq.

Avril reported that there are 30 participants signed up for EV 2015…  that is so great…  largest showing to date…

Avril has posted all of the EV 2015 Guidelines in the Forums section of our website… it is very clear and simple,  but if you have questions you can reach Avril at avek@telus.net

Dave Bartle has generously volunteered to construct some sandwich boards for the Clubs EV Publicity…  Thanks Dave you are super…

Bob, Wendy, Elehna and Bernadette volunteered easels if they are necessary… possibly for in front of windows…

Doug Wahlston has stepped up to the task for PR… thanks so much Doug…

EV 2015 Opening Reception will be similar to last years, managed by the ever capable Fifi and contributions from all... don’t forget we are known for the Best Opening Reception on the Island… so we have a tradition to uphold…

Wine service… Avril will be talking with the Uptown Liguor store who worked with us last year so generously…

Wendy briefly spoke about pricing your work – reminding us that our images/experience and labours are WORTH something, so DO NOT undersell yourself or your work…  Her rule of thumb is…  Costs X 2 or 3 or 4 depending on what you are comfortable with…

Membership Dues:  are now due for 2015 - $20 – best investment on the island, great entertainment and great people  … please get them to Pat Page as soon as possible…

Free Series on the Art of Photography:  Gregg Klassen will be offering “ Why Photography “…  on the 2nd Sunday of each month --- 2-3:30 at the Library… next one will be April 12 … tentatively, on the “ connection between experimentation with camera controls and experimentation with artistic intentions “...

These sessions are really thought provoking and start you thinking about why you do photography and why you like to capture or create images… he challenges us to examine the subject from different perspective

3. Now Showing:

ArtSpring:   Here’s Looking at You…  until March 29th, be sure to stop by and check it out several of our members are showing…    Late Breaking news:   Congratulations!!!  Doug McMillin who won the $1000 prize at the Here’s Looking at You exhibition…   cookies are on your Doug at the next month’s meeting…  Maggie Argiro who got an honourable mention!

Well done all Photo Club members who entered and were accepted, your works are a fine representation of our club's many talented Photographers.   It is a good show and well worth seeing.

Pemberton Holmes:  now showing the work of Larry Melious – wonderful island photographer, Larry plays with light in a most extraordinary way… drop by to view his images of the island…

Country Grocer Café Gallery: Judy McPhee is showing a riot of floral, sort of a CanCan of images… … beautiful… until March 31…

Fernwood Café:  Bill Underwood is showing from March 15 to April 11 The show is a snapshot for Prairie architecture and the disappearing small town…  A lovely sensitive show with a very soft pallet… so venture out to the far north for a cuppa/treat… and a look at his work…

Elehna de Sousa will be showing April 12 to May 16

Tatjana will be showing from May 17 to June 13…

If you know of other shows in town… add them on to this blog or better yet post it on the event section of our website… Let us all know what you have found and enjoyed….

4. Educational Segment: Due to ill health Simon’s presentation on Lens has been postponed to a later date…

Doug McMillin presented a short overview of the club slide management system and the workings of our wonderful new HH screen… he even made it work without his computer – just from a USB stick… Wow isn’t technology wonderful… isn’t he wonderful too…  So now Doug can rest assured that we have him covered if he can’t make it… well sort of…

5.  Evening Show/Challenge…   The Challenge of the month was multi-faceted “ Feet/Macro/Kitchen” and somehow “ Reflections “ got thrown into the equation… so it was a challenging mix that harvested some wonderfully imaginative work... The prize for the most inclusive image of the evening has to go to Doug McMillin as he managed to have Feet, Reflection and his Kitchen floor all in one image… not bad…

It is wonderful to see the work shown by the members…   it just seems to get more and more striking… and we can certainly raise to ANY challenge… well done all !!!   Let’s see what you can do next month…

If you would like to see the evening’s show again…  Doug has posted it on our website… show your friends and families… it is super…

6.  Next Meeting:  Wednesday, April 8, 2015

                           Harbour House…  7:00 pm

7.  The Challenge for next month:  “ Challenging Your Creativity… “   the challenge was hijacked by Margaret Benmore… presenting an approach to exercising your Creative juices… stretching your imagination and flexing your visual boundaries…  The instructions for this challenge are on the website under Blog Posts “April’s Challenge”…  Props were given out, and others chose to get their own props…   Go out there and just have fun, play, and really enjoy your own private shoot….  Go for it…

Editorial aside: If you have any comments, corrections or additions please feel free --- all help is welcome…

I would like to encourage all club members to take part in the conversations on the website --- they are interesting and endlessly informative…  Share your pictures with the club on the site – you know we all love to look at images and it would give us a chance to get to know a little bit about you …  let’s participate…

Thanks for your patience...

Cheers… MCB
