I think it's a step back to familiar ground - as a pup, I shot miles of plus-X with a meter-less Pentax so the learning curve in digital b & w feels a bit less steep.  Today, I'm working with PSE, Lightroom 4, a Bamboo tablet and a relatively new camera; each of which offers a dazzling new set of features and its own vocabulary.  Not boring for a minute!  Nice to  have so many pixels to play with - here's a crop from the image above:

Good curves, soft and the B&W accentuates the shadows and light. Is that why you decided to uncolour it?
