I was quite close at 50mm so raising the camera would probably show some lens distortion, hence the slight curvature of the tree trunks.

Hi Doug, it's one shot at a time moving the camera slightly after each shot using the cameras Multiple Exposure mode. Processing is done in camera. No wind ....... You can get the same effect by setting the number of exposures in Multiple Exposure mode and then using the cameras self timer mode. The D800e and some others like the D3/4 will fire the camera for the set number of exposures slowly enough to allow you to move the camera slightly between shots. Maximum number of shots with the D800e is 10.
