You're right, of course.  I cropped to 16 x 9 - the flatscreen crop, which is 1:1.777.  Not a lot of difference, but your ratio offers a nicer proportion, especially when reinforced by elements in the image.  I'm enjoying the 24mp camera, which encourages this sort of behaviour, although it bends the "get closer" rule.  Isn't this fun?  Here's the original shot:
