These beautiful birds have returned and I will try to get a closer shot now with my added lens.

Bob, I only shoot jpeg - have been workng on RAW, but haven't done that yet. I was trying to get a shot of the first gold finch that happened to land in the bird bath and he only stayed long enough for me to go click. The jpeg size of my image was 4280x 2890 and I was using an 18   x105 Nikon VR lwns shoooting out of a double pane window, I did not reduce the size of the image I just cut out the image you see which made it about 1250 x 850. It was a fast shot - not the best I ever produced - but I did manage to catch the yellow coloring - over exposed - and wanted  to record the first goldie of my season. There is a regular flock of them that come each year - and as I stated - I will try to get a perfect shot of one with my new  lens as soon as the weather and nature provide the opportunity.

Beautiful soft colours for that bright little bird.
