The water was coming from a swampy pond that sat on the edge of a moss covered rocky cliff.  There was a lot of rainfall allowing the water level to rise to the point where the excess water was percolating through the crevices in the rock and then diverting through holes in the thick moss covering.

It is one of those delights that nature gives us.
