Good old tennis! Wooden rackets, I see...
Hi guys - thanks for the comments - insightful as always... and fun...
The picture is of a Chinese Foo Dog incense burner and the background is a Raj India brass table top form the turn of the century... the images are various sports popular at the time, gymnastics, grass hockey, tennis, rugby, running, hang gliding etc. etc. Here is another shot of it.... Note the fashion, hair styles and sports equipment.... It is of course based on the sports of the British... Photography is great for making you look more closely at the detail of what you see.... it's fun to see what you find... Cheers and have a wonderful day.... MCB
Ditto Avril.
Best viewed full size. fascinating. I like best the topless one with the droopy jockey shorts, but I expect all this will change with the hot breath of the draglion.
What an interesting tray (is it a tray?); a mix of Ancient Egypt and people playing lacrosse and riding in cars and on motorbikes. I like the gold highlights on the sculpture.
I like the clarity of the engravings with the slightly out-of-focus dog? lion? Seems to suit the tarnished look of the animal and the bright look of the table. Nice composition, too, Margaret, and lovely objets d'art.
