#2 works and Cinque Terre is one of the special places in all of Italy.  I loved that day and walk.

In the first he looks as though he's been hewn out of the rock, in the second his separation makes a lovely negative space with the bridge space above and that carved look to the rock contrasts neatly with the solid bulk of the boats below.  I vote for #2, too.
