I am on the Steering Committee for a new project - The Salt Spring National Art Prize. This inaugural, juried art prize of 2D and 3D work, will begin next year, with an exhibition of Finalist works on Salt Spring Island.
We are about to launch our website but still need some vital images to make the site enticing, especially for people who have never been to Salt Spring before. Part of the mandate of the event is to bring art tourists to the island. The website will have links to our island galleries and other art related events.
We are hoping this endeavour will boost art sales on the island and benefit all of us. As you can imagine it is a challenge to set the website up without images from any previous shows.
We are seeking high quality photographs from local photographers to be used for a slide show in the header of the web site home page and in the visitors section of the site.
For the slideshow we are looking for images that capture the essence of Salt Spring and what gives it its reputation - ie eco-tourism, natural beauty, outdoor activities, the markets, artists, artisans, organic farming, health and well being etc.
For the visitors section we are looking for images that capture the specifics of accommodation, activities, food, art (ie art openings or events) etc. (Visitor section includes - Where We Are, Art On View, Where to Stay, Local Fare (Food), Things to Do.
I know there are many gifted photographers in the Photography Club. Some may be interested in providing images for this project. Judy McPhee has already sent me some images for consideration. There will be photo credits and of course exposure of the work but sadly we cannot afford payment for the use these images.
For the slideshow, images must be a minimum of 1300px wide by 700px high (they can be larger, but not smaller). Images for the Visitors section can be smaller.
Club members can send photos or questions to me at gmcconnell@shaw.ca
Please note that the website reserves the right to crop images if that is necessary to fit the format.
Regards,
Gillian McCconnell
