Shot through a knot hole in the wall this monochrome image is actually a full colour shot ....go figure

Actually has sepia tones which in fact may be the colors of the wood, straw and ground.
As Simon explained, if you shoot in JPEG with monochrome mode, you will get B&W.
If you captured in raw file format, even in camera 'monochrome mode' the downloaded file will revert back to the coloured raw file (raw files contain ALL the original information).
Converting to a B&W version is then done post capture during editing.
