I think she knew - reminds me of the Buddhist story about a monk who plucks and eats a perfect strawberry just before the tiger attacks.

She's ok with whatever lies ahead - leading, yet protecting the man she knows would rather not know.

 I saw a cozy couple; he with a weak right leg, and she with a weak left.  Their relative positions reduce the potential for caneflict.

One could speculate - did she do the driving (automatic) or does he (standard)?  Et cetera.

As they made their slow progress toward the parking lot, neither they nor I noticed the alien space craft hovering ahead; there was a brief audible hum and they vanished, canes and all!
