Autumn Surf Scoters
I have often shown scoters but my research only showed then as being here in the spring. Now I have discovered that they are in the Puget Sound - San Juan Islands area in the fall and winter here.Far off somewhat distorted image with not my best equipment but wanted to get this - rare for me shot. A small flock is here in Churchill bay for a few days.

I got my new info from something called (I think) the Puget Sound Waterbirds .com. INteresting what Google can come up with. Meant to tell Simon but perhaps he read this anyway.

Bill used to do a bird count at Hudson Pt and Fernwood dock and, looking at his old notes, he used to see these guys in December occasionally and as early as February, so they can be here at the colder times too.
