                      July 2023 Newsletter

Meeting Notes:

6 ladies from the Club came to the meeting wearing high-fashion outfits in honour of Howard's 'Fashion' presentation. There was a splendid array of hats, gloves, shawls, jewelry, sparkles and glorious colour.

There were two new faces at the meeting; Gerri Charlton has rejoined the Club and has already posted some photos from Howard's 'portrait' workshop. Joanne Berube, a friend of Jean's, came to see if she would like to join the Club.

Next year's Guild Show:

Next year it will be at Mahon Hall again. The dates are - April 1st - 5th OR May 4th - 9th.

If the May dates are chosen then it will be close to the Eclectic Vision show at Gallery 8 whose dates are May 15th - 30th.

The show will run a little longer next year and the fees might cost more - $40 or $45.

Not much interest was shown among the club members at the meeting but if anyone would like to take it on and drum up some enthusiasm then please let Judy know.

Eclectic Visions 2024:

May 15th - 30th.

This will include the May Long Weekend, a busy time on Salt Spring with soccer tournaments and the Classic car show, amongst other events.

The fees for next year will probably be increased because this year ran at a loss as the fees didn't cover the cost of rental space. We need at least 26 or 27 people to participate and fees might be $75 or even $80.

Fall Fair:

Judy is once again pulling together the photography part of the Fall Fair.

The theme this year is 'Blue Jeans and Healthy Greens'. September 9 - 10.

The 3 judges will be Janet Dwyer, Anette Schrage and Randolph Parker. Avril Kirby and Anna McColm will be the judges clerks.

Judy is looking for people to help when photos are dropped off on Tuesday 5th between 3pm – 6 as well as volunteers to help with monitoring during the Fair. More info to come out when she sends the Signup Genius link next month. Let her know if you are interested. Judging will take place on Thursday when all the photos have been hung on the boards.

Country Grocer:

Hannah Spray is showing some of her work this month.

John De Bruyn will show in September

Anna McColm will show in November

Next year is wide open. Jan, March, May, July, September and November are all available. Let Judy (jhmcphee@shaw.ca) or Anna (annagarika@hotmail.com) know if you are interested.

Photo Equipment:

Pierre has some photographic equipment to give away and one good camera which he will sell (funds will go to the club). First dibs will be for members of the Club and then, if unsold, it will go on the Exchange. A message about this will go onto the Website. He will bring the box of equipment to the next meeting.

Next Month’s Speaker:

Susan Huber will be the presenter for the August meeting.  She works in 19th Century processes such as Daguerreotype and Tintype as well platinum/palladium printing.  In today’s digital age, the techniques Susan uses and the results she gets are fascinating.  Have a look at her work on her website.  susanhuber.com

Next Month’s Theme:

The challenge theme for next month is 'Blue'. However you interpret it; The colour blue, the emotion blue (as in feeling blue or the blues), the music - The Blues etc. Or Pierre's neighbourhood Peacock, known as 'Blue'.
