It's always a gift when 'wild things' arrive to be part of the picture.
I like the panorama format adding to the width of their landing.
Did you hear them coming, or did they sneak up on you from behind?

Simon, they had been flying around all day, never seeming to touch down! A couple landed while I was on the bridge and a few minutes later I heard a big gaggle flying over and just hoped they would join them - and they did!

"Almost" works fine when you want to capture the feeling of flight and flightiness.
