Photoshop replacement

Adobe had announced that users will have to pay monthly subscriptions to its upgraded products. This will drive artists and hobbyists away.

Fortunately there are affordable alternatives. Gimp is an excellent Photoshop replacement, it's free, and is available for both Windows and Macintosh computers at: http://www.gimp.org/

For Macintosh users, Pixelmator 2.2 is an image editing tool with selection, painting, retouching, navigation, color correction, vector drawing, and healing tools, along with layers-based image editing, GPU-powered image processing, and other features. Highlights of this release include a Shapes palette, Smart Shapes Tools (for adjusting shape outlines), a Shapes Style palette, a Convert Text to Shape function, a context-sensitive Smart Move Tool, a Paint Selection Tool, a Light Leak effect, improved type and drawing tools, and "major performance improvements." Pixelmator 2 is currently $14.99 for Mac OS X 10.6.8 through 10.8 and is available only in the Mac App Store.
