Yes, you're right. We walk right by these more pedestrian bits of craftsmanship and don't stop to think about what went into them. Good for you for pointing it out.

By handcrafted, i'm tipping my hat to the person who drew a cross-section of the stair tread, with dimensions, overhangs, recessed lighting, the non-skid grooves, the stepped transition between level, spaced surfaces and sloped brick, and the size, shape and frequency of the handrails which will assist some of us in safely using the stair.  The care and craftsmanship invested in building the forms, pouring the concrete, blending the diverse elements together into a functional and durable structure that many of us might take for granted as we approach the wonders of the new library building.  These are my people, these makers of things.

At first glance I wondered if I'd prefer to have just the grey without the strip of dark at the top but after scrolling down to see, I decided I like it as you've done it. What do you mean, hand-crafted?  I can see foot crafted after many, many years, when the pits and hollows start to appear. Hope I'll be around to witness that.
