Meow Men - The Softer Side of Salt Spring

A 12 month Calendar to benefit the Salt Spring Island BC SPCA branch and the animals in our community.

 

PURPOSE:

This is a fundraiser we hope raises a little more than just money. While we have a goal of raising $2,000 through sales of our calendar, we also want to raise awareness of the special bonds and relationships that men have with their cats. Far too long have our feline friends played second fiddle to that old adage about dogs being “man’s best friend.” Nowadays, more cats are being adopted and given homes with their favorite bros, hanging out in the man cave, lapping up the luxury of a domestic life.

By purchasing a calendar, you support our branch activities and services on Salt Spring Island, BritishColumbia, and you get to enjoy some beautiful scenes of cuties with kitties.

 

PARTICIPANTS:

Local men, all kinds, all types, all stripes. We hope the calendar will show our diverse population as well as feature guys with their favorite kittens or cats. The general look is to show the softer side of things, with men and their furr friends casual, relaxed, and cuddling, in their home environment or wherever they like to hang out together. Outdoors, by the barn, in the field, or inside on the couch, in bed, on the floor. Cats may be any age or relationship to the man in the photograph. Please do not “dressup” the cats.

We will need some information about the cat (name, age, relationship and story to the meowman)

 

PHOTOGRAPHERS:

We ask photographers to produce 1-3 high quality images of men with their cats or kittens in fun, engaging, cute, sweet, and even sexy poses, conveying both STRENGTH and SOFTNESS. Shoot both portrait and landscape orientation to maximize our options for calendar design.

 

Locations can be anywhere on Salt Spring, indoor or outdoor. It would be great to have at least a couple shots with or near identifiable landmarks on the island. It’s also fantastic if the felines photographed came from a rescue rather than a breeder.

 

Animals must not be stressed by the photographic event. Please be kind and ensure that kitties (and men) are as relaxed as possible and having a good time.

All photographs are the property of the BC SPCA. We have a waiver for you and your models to sign.

 

TIMELINE:

Photographs are to be coordinated between the photographer and the models.

High resolution images to be sent to [e-mail] before August 31st.

Photos will be selected based on quality and adherence to the Purpose of the calendar.

The calendar will be created and sent to press by September 11th at the latest.

Calendars will make their debut for sale at the Paws for a Cause event on October 4th.
