I must agree with Jean, Doug and April ... the SaltSpring Photography Cub is largely a social club with a common interest in photography, no matter what level the members are at. As a newcomer to the Island a few years ago I joined the club to meet like minded people interested in photography erregardless of their expertise or reason for their interest. For me, personally, the club has fulfilled my reason for joining and then some. From my very first meeting everyone was so welcoming and friendly!

I agree too. When we started the club, there was a general idea it was a photography club with social attributes (weekly coffee meet-up etc.). I feel it has gradually morphed into what it is today and that the monthly presentations have been the predominant source of photographic nurturing.
I also understand that the executive would like to bring the website more into play for educational stimulation, thus hopefully attracting a greater use by the membership.
This isn't about social vs professionalism, rather about a club that provides members a variety of services depending on the diverse nature of it's membership.
Certainly when you look at the quality of photography presented around the community, and in the annual shows, the club is working for many.
Well said Simon ... “diverse nature of it’s membership” being the key words here I think.
The only possible mistake to make is to think the club should be X or Y when it can be both.
Yes!
