Since I can remember, I have taken photographs of everyday moments in my life. Whether it was taking photos of my travels, or capturing daily moments of my four children, my camera was always with me.  I can proudly say that each of my kids have several chronologically assembled albums to remind them of their childhood.

Last fall, my oldest son gave me used Nikon D90.  His university friend was upgrading to a better camera so he felt that it was time for me to toss my point-and-shoot camera and “get with the times”.  I was truly thrilled and touched the same time. Aperture, ISO, and shutter speed? What is that? If I remember correctly, I picked up the camera few times and everything felt so complicated.  One rainy night, I decided to read up on this complex subject of DSLR cameras. Thank you YouTube for being there for me! Within weeks I found myself totally in love with the camera. Suddenly, I was spending nearly all of my spare time on learning about it. What do I like the most about photography?  Trying to capture and share the essence of a natural place through photography.  No two nature photos are ever the same, always a different light, and always different conditions.  Thus, begins my endless romance with photography.

Hi Elehna, absolutely I can pick you up!  I am currently renting the corner blue house on Bayview. Just let me know your address and I will pick you up at 6:45 on Wednesday.  My email is janazachariou@hotmail.ca  I don't have a land line as it is only temporary and only use email and text for communication.

Welcome Jana. It was a treat to meet you at our Monday coffee and conversation with you was even more interesting. We all share the same motivations for photography and I think you will enjoy our ideas as we enjoy ours. Really like your Images!!

Eclectic Visions 2018 - Dates & Rules

Posted on March 2, 2018 at 2:17pm 0 Comments

In the past few days I had several requests regarding the dates & rules for EV 2018.  Attached is the file which includes all the details.  I would encourage everyone who is planning on participating in this year's EV to attend our next monthly meeting.  It is so much easier to answer your questions in person than through the email. Cheers, J.…

Determining the right price for your work

Posted on April 2, 2016 at 11:54am 1 Comment

Some of the new members have asked me for advice on how to determine the right price for your work.  So, the BIG question is what to charge for your work and how do you figure it out?

Some of the artists suggest looking at prices from couple of angles:

1. Make sure you are fully compensated: keep track of your costs (frame, mat, cost of printing), including computer…

Ladysmith Waterfront Gallery

Posted on February 7, 2016 at 12:21pm 1 Comment

What a night, 300 people packed the Ladysmith Waterfront Gallery for the Ladysmith fine Arts Show opening reception. It was amazing. All work is for sale. If you are a collector or lover of art this is the place to visit as there are some amazing art creations. In particular, some of the three dimensional pieces are simply fabulous. The show runs until the end of February.  As some of you already know Elehna de Sousa and I have few pieces in the show. However, if you can't…

This group will infuse some new energy and direction into the Club. Feedback from club members indicates that people would like more interactive educational activities (workshops, classes, small field trips etc.) and maybe a schedule of educational opportunities ahead of time so that people can plan to attend.

The Victoria Camera Club has an external speaker every month and are willing to share their list of speakers so we can participate, at a cost of $5 a person. The club has funds to cover this at the moment. This would require using the  Zoom format (which has worked so well during this Pandemic).

Club meetings will resume in October, giving this new group time to work out their ideas for new directions.

Some people are cautious about in person meetings (because of health issues) and others are ready and able to jump back in. Maybe in person meetings and Zoom meetings can co-exist. Something to talk about.

Maureen has offered to look into a monthly newsletter with, possibly, more coverage than the website offers such as emails, using facebook etc.

Avril would like to see an improved use of the website: more posts, more comments, more helpful critiquing. We might need a refresher course to remind us how to give constructive feedback.

Doug has a show about Covid in September at the library -  in the Community Program Room. He will give a talk on September 7th at Noon. This will be previously unseen material, not the triptychs we have seen on the website.

Photosynthesis has a virtual show coming up, starting on August 31st. Some club members also belong to this photography group.

There is no theme yet for the photography challenge in October but when that is decided it will be communicated to everyone.
