DESCRIPTION:\nThe opening reception of our annual Photosynthesis Photo
  Show is Aug 24th from 5-7:30 pm at Artspring. Please come and join us
 . The show continues daily from Aug 25th to Sept 6th from 10 - 5 pm at
  Artspring.\n\nHistory of Photosynthesis\nPhotosynthesis is a group of
  artistic Salt Spring Island photographers founded in 1994. It has flu
 ctuated over the years but is comprised of approximately 20 photograph
 ers, chosen for the quality of their work and invited to join as perma
 nent members as space allows. The Photosynthesis group has exhibited a
 nnually at Artspring since 2001 and this has become an exciting not-to
 -be-missed island tradition. This year’s exhibit represents a slight
  departure from past ones in that it will be a thematic show entitled 
 “Between Word and Image”. Participating photographers will present
  new work, chosen to accompany a piece of writing of their choice. The
  intent is to go beyond the simple viewing of the image but rather, to
  create a symbiosis that engages and challenges the viewer.\nThe show 
 includes works by 19 of the permanent members as well as 3 guest photo
 graphers and a few students from the High Schools’ photography progr
 amme. Showing works that have not been previously displayed ensures th
 at the show will be fresh, vibrant and exciting.\nThe opening receptio
 n is on August 24th from 5 - 7:30 pm at ArtSpring. The show will run u
 ntil September 6th with at least one member in attendance at all times
  to meet visitors and discuss the group’s creations.  Come and see 
 the best that photography has to offer and share a bit of our island i
