I am not sure of the club protocol - but I just had to share this image (not my own) with people who are visually oriented  - it struck me as such a powerful image and statement..  It shows such bravery, such dignity, such horror, and such honor... This little girl (5 yearsold) is such a symbol of what is good in the world in the context of such a catastrophe.. She is the future and the present and the honour of the past.   The background of rescue workers and the mountians of distruction just amplify the hope in her -- bright pink, carefully matching outfit, complete with Miss Kitty bag... she will be fine -- and so will Japan --- our thoughts and prayers are with them....

Thanks - just had to share it --- I'd love to hear other peoples interpretations or readings of the image....

Thank you Margaret. I almost get the feeling from the determined look on the young girls face that she is leading the rescue workers. I believe only time will tell how Japan, and the global community, will come through this terrible event, but come through it they will, eventually.
I agree that this image is strong beyond ordinary words. It certainly goes beyond simple stoicism. Whatever associations others may have, mine are about the value of children.

The beauty of photo jounalism.

A picture says a million words.

The forum is a place to share....thank you for sharing this powerful image.

I'm glad to see this on our site and to read your comment. I had a similar reaction to this shot  -- great photo journalism, absolutely -- and the contrast between this little girl, the big men in uniforms, the color contrasts between she and them, and the soft down coat against the piles of rubble: really wonderful. Said a whole lot to me about the determinism and strength of the Japanese, tempered by grace and dignity.

To answer you questions, for the moment there are not clear guidelines. What you have to be aware of is, of course, the risk of infringement of others copyright. A way to handle that is to only post a link to the photo.

Anyhow, this is a great photo. Thank you for sharing it.

Marg, this is a wonderful and very powerful image.  Thanks for sharing it.  Her determination to carry on as normal in contrast to the devastation surrounding her is powerful, as is her total image compared to the work party in the rear.

In response to Ernie's concerns, surely just an acknowledgment of the origin, i.e. photographer or website should surely be sufficient re copyright issue.   You have not reproduced the image for commercial purposes.
